For guests who would like to experience Japanese culture more deeply, we offer a small selection of carefully chosen cultural experiences. These can be added to Kyoto Walk 2 or Kyoto Walk 3, or booked separately as stand-alone experiences (see note on pricing below for stand-alone experiences).

Authentic Tea Ceremony

  • Tea ceremony: JPY 60,000 for up to 2 guests
  • Additional guests: JPY 20,000 per person
  • Optional hands-on tea making: JPY 3,000 per person
  • Arrangement fee: JPY 11,000 per group
  • Children must be 15 years or older

Ikebana (Flower Arrangement) Lesson

  • Lesson: JPY 60,000 for up to 2 guests
  • Additional guests: JPY 20,000 per person
  • Arrangement fee: JPY 11,000 per group

Visit to a Renowned Kiyomizu-yaki Pottery Artist’s Workshop

  • Workshop visit: JPY 35,000 for up to 4 guests
  • Arrangement fee: JPY 11,000 per group
  • Children must be 15 years or older

Soba-Making Experience with a Professional Soba Chef

  • Soba-making experience: JPY 35,000 for up to 4 guests
  • Additional guests: JPY 6,500 per person (maximum 8 guests)
  • Arrangement fee: JPY 11,000 per group
  • Children must be 10 years or older

Kyoto Home Cooking Lesson with a Professional Cooking Teacher

  • Lesson: JPY 35,000 for up to 2 guests (includes lunch)
  • Additional guests: JPY 15,000 per person (maximum 5 guests)
  • Arrangement fee: JPY 11,000 per group
  • Children must be 15 years or older

If you’re already booking Kyoto Walk 2 or Kyoto Walk 3, simply email us at chris@chrisrowthorn.com and let us know which experience you’d like to add.
If you’d like to book a stand-alone experience, please email chris@chrisrowthorn.com and include:

  • the experience you’d like to book
  • your preferred dates (please include several options if possible)
  • your preferred start times (or a time range for each date)
  • the number of guests (and the ages of any children)

Note on Stand-Alone Experiences

Stand-alone experiences are available in the afternoon only. For stand-alone bookings, we charge an additional JPY 30,000 guide/interpreter fee, in addition to the experience fees listed above.
