Tokyo Tours

Tokyo is the restless heart of modern Japan, the perfect counterpoint to the traditional charms of Kyoto. If you have the chance, I highly recommend visiting both cities, as they represent the poles of the Japanese experience. I offer walking tours of Tokyo as well as tours that cover more ground and make use of taxis and/or public transport.

Like my Kyoto tours, my Tokyo tours combine a good mix of famous and off-the-beaten-track destinations, linked, where possible, by easy walks. Like my Kyoto walks, I try to plan my Tokyo walks around great restaurants and cafes. And for those who want to do some shopping, I can plan tours that take in some of Tokyo’s best shops and shopping districts.

Possible destinations include the sprawling Tsukiji Fish Market, the hyperkinetic urban centers of Shinjuku and Shibuya, the ultrahip shopping and café zones of Aoyama and Harajuku, and retro neighborhoods like Ueno and Asakusa. In addition to these well-known spots, I offer tours of Tokyo’s less famous but equally interesting neighborhoods.

The fact is, Tokyo is one of the world’s great cities. But, it can be overwhelming and difficult to navigate on your own. This is where I come in: my planned and custom private tours of Tokyo are led by English-speaking Japanese and long-term Tokyo ex-pats. Together, we can take you inside one of the world’s most fascinating cities.
